For the Birds: important information

Thank you for booking tickets for Brighton Festival's enchanting woodland installation, For the Birds. In order to make your experience as safe and enjoyable as possible, please read the following information carefully:

Before your visit

  • For the Birds is a self-guided promenade through the woods at night. The site is a beautiful but exposed natural spot in the South Downs National Park. Please dress for the weather: wear sturdy, flat shoes suitable for a woodland walk, warm clothes and a coat.
  • The route has been planned to ensure your safety, however there is uneven terrain, slopes and narrow gaps. Please note that it may be muddy and slippery when wet. The route not suitable for buggies and pushchairs. Dogs are not permitted, with the exception of access dogs.
  • If you have any questions about the accessibility of the route, please call 01273 261 541 or email access@brightonfestival.org
  • The event will go ahead in bad weather. In the unlikely event of a cancellation, we will inform ticket holders by email. We will also publish this information on our Twitter feed @brightfest

Getting there

  • Please refer to your ticket or booking confirmation email for the time of your designated admission slot.
  • Your shuttle bus departs from the Hollingbury ASDA bus stop on Crowhurst Road, BN1 8AF. Shuttle buses run every 8 - 10 minutes, and the journey will take approximately 5 minutes. There may be a short wait for the bus at peak times. Please ensure you get to the Hollingbury ASDA bus stop on Crowhurst Road at least 15 minutes before the end of your allocated admission slot. Please arrive no more than 5-10 minutes before the start of your slot time.
  • If you are getting to ASDA Hollingbury by car, you may park in the ASDA car park free of charge for up to 2 hours 55 minutes. Cars parked for 3 hours will automatically be issued a parking fine.

Ticket collections

  • Your ticket will be inspected as you board the shuttle bus. Please keep your ticket on you at all times ready for inspection.
  • If you are collecting pre-booked tickets, these will be waiting for you at the bus stop on Crowhurst Road: please ensure you have your booking confirmation email ready. Please arrive no more that 5-10 minutes before the start of your time slot.
  • Please note that admission is by advance booking only. Tickets will not be available to purchase on the night.

Getting back

  • It will usually take about 80 minutes to complete the experience walking at an average pace. You can then board any bus back to Hollingbury. If you are booked for one of the last slots of the evening, please ensure that you know when the last bus back to Hollingbury departs by asking one of the stewards.
  • You will not be able to board the bus returning directly to Old Steine, as places on these will all have been pre-booked. However, you can catch buses 5B and 26 back to the city centre from the Hollingbury ASDA bus stop. The last 5B bus back to central Brighton departs at 12.01am (Wed - Sat) and 11.15pm (Sun). After that, the N5 night bus runs on Wed - Sat nights only.
  • Please allow adequate time to make the journey to and from Hollingbury before and after the event. Brighton Festival does not accept liability for any delays to journeys or costs incurred as a result for any reason.

Once at the event location

  • Please follow the lit route at all times and do not deviate from the lit path. There will be stewards to guide you along the route and answer any questions you may have. Please do not touch any of the installations or lights, including the route lighting.
  • Some installations may contain flashing lights, strobe and smoke. Your eyes will quickly adjust to the lighting levels, so please try not to use torches. If it is necessary for you to use a torch, please shine it at the ground, and not at the installations or at other visitors.
  • We hope you will respect the shared experience of the event and keep conversations at a low level so as not to disturb others' enjoyment. Please minimise use of mobile phones as they are bright and can be distracting. Photography is permitted, but flashes and tripods are not.
  • If you are bringing children please be responsible for them and ensure they abide by the safety instructions.
  • There will be portable toilets including accessible toilets at the event site. Munch Mobile will also be on hand with a selection of snacks and hot and cold drinks available to purchase.
  • For the Birds is a family-friendly installation and Brighton Festival reserves the right of admission. Persons who are inebriated, causing nuisance or unreasonable disturbance may be refused entry or removed from the site.

We hope you enjoy the experience!
