For the Birds: important information and change to your return bus times

Thank you for booking tickets for Brighton Festival’s woodland installation, For the Birds.

Following the audience experience over the opening weekend, we have made some adjustments to the timetable for the return buses back to Brighton in order to allow everyone to fully enjoy the installations. Return buses will now leave the site 2 hours after the bus departure time from Central Brighton. This is 40 minutes later than originally advertised.

Getting there

  • Please refer to your ticket and/or booking confirmation email for the departure time of your outbound bus from Old Steine, stop E. Please ensure that you arrive in time to catch your bus.
  • It will take approximately 20 minutes to reach the event location by bus. You will then now have over 90 minutes to experience the installations. Your return bus back to Old Steine will now leave 2 hours after your departure time.

Ticket collections

  • Your ticket will be inspected upon boarding the bus. You will be given a wristband which you must wear to be admitted into the installation.
  • If you are collecting pre-booked tickets, these will be available at Old Steine (stop E) from 15 minutes before your scheduled bus departure time. Please ensure you have your booking confirmation email ready. All tickets collected at the bus stop will include the corrected departure time of your return bus.
  • Please note that admission to For the Birds is by advance booking only. Tickets will not be available to purchase on the night.

Getting back

  • Your scheduled return bus will now leave the site 2 hours after your outward departure from Old Steine. This is 40 minutes later than originally advertised.
  • You will have 90 minutes to experience the installation. Please check with staff at the site if you are unsure about your return bus time after the event.
  • If you would like to leave the installation sooner, you will be able to take any shuttle bus back to Hollingbury ASDA, from where you can make your onward journey by public transport. The last 5B bus back to central Brighton departs at 12.01am (Wed - Sat) and 11.15pm (Sun). After that, the N5 night bus runs on Wed - Sat nights only.
  • Please note that Brighton Festival does not accept liability for any delays to journeys or costs incurred as a result for any reason.

What to wear

  • For the Birds is a self-guided promenade through the woods at night. The site is a beautiful but exposed natural spot in the South Downs National Park. Please dress for the weather. Wear sturdy, flat shoes suitable for a woodland walk, and bring warm clothing and a coat.
  • The route has been planned to ensure your safety, however there is uneven terrain, slopes and narrow gaps. Please note that it may be muddy and slippery when wet. The route not suitable for buggies and pushchairs. Dogs are not permitted, with the exception of access dogs.
  • If you have any questions about the accessibility of the route, please call 01273 261 541 or email access@brightonfestival.org
  • The performance will go ahead in bad weather. In the unlikely event of a cancellation, we will inform ticket holders by email. We will also publish this information on our Twitter feed @brightfest

Once at the event location

  • Please follow the lit route at all times and do not deviate from the lit path. There will be stewards to guide you along the route and answer any questions you may have. Please do not touch any of the installations or lights, including the route lighting.
  • Some installations may contain flashing lights, strobe and smoke. Your eyes will quickly adjust to the lighting levels, so please try not to use torches. If it is necessary for you to use a torch, please shine it at the ground, and not at the installations or at other visitors.
  • We hope you will respect the shared experience of the event and keep conversations at a low level so as not to disturb others' enjoyment. Please minimise use of mobile phones as they are bright and can be distracting. Photography is permitted, but flashes and tripods are not.
  • If you are bringing children please be responsible for them and ensure they abide by the safety instructions.
  • There will be portable toilets including accessible toilets at the event site. Munch Mobile will also be on hand with a selection of snacks and hot and cold drinks available to purchase.
  • For the Birds is a family-friendly installation and Brighton Festival reserves the right of admission. Persons who are inebriated, causing nuisance or unreasonable disturbance may be refused entry or removed from the site.

We hope you enjoy the experience!

If you enjoyed For the Birds, please do spread the word. However, to help us protect the site, we ask that you keep its location a secret. You can let us know what you thought on FacebookTwitter or Instagram - don't forget to include #brightonfestival
