'If' with 'Zéro De Conduit'

Part of a series of double bills in which classics of British Cinema from 1968 are paired with a film from another era that shares its radical spirit.

(UK, 1968, cert. 15)

Dir: Lindsay Anderson

Shot during the social unrest of 1968, If… is a film that epitomises its time. Malcolm McDowell is magnificent as anti-hero Mick Travis, who takes his public schoolboy rebellion to its limit.

Duration 111 minutes

Zéro de Conduite

Dir: Jean Vigo

A beautiful, anarchic and highly influential film about childhood rebellion in a repressive boarding school. Based on the director’s own experiences, it was banned by the French authorities until 1945.
