Brighton and Hove Registration Service (Births, Deaths, Marriages, Civil Partnerships, Nationality Checking and Citizenship) provide a statutory service for people to register deaths that have occurred in the Brighton and Hove district. Most deaths need to be registered within five days and this is usually done by a relative or someone arranging the funeral. Deaths need to be registered before funeral arrangements can be made so they see people very early on following the bereavement. They work very closely with the Brighton and Hove Coroner, the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Doctors, local nursing homes and Hospices. They register approximately 2500 deaths a year, compared to 3500 registered births. Find out more at the Death Market.
