The Atéa Wind Quintet was formed in 2009 and is enjoying a reputation as a fearless and virtuosic ensemble. It is a keen proponent of contemporary and unusual works – works like How to Avoid Huge Ships, premiered by the Quintet last year, and the charming and melodic Quintet by the 19th-century flautist Giulio Briccialdi. Nielsen’s Wind Quintet, on the other hand, is a staple of the repertoire while Poulenc’s Novelette is an exquisite miniature gem.
