The dynamic young Alke Quartet has quickly established itself as one of the most exciting chamber music ensembles around today, praised by The Times for its ‘astonishing stylistic and tonal unanimity’. Following its Festival debut last year, it makes a welcome return with a programme that ranges from the anguished brilliance of Mendelssohn’s Quartet No. 6 to the power of Schubert’s Quartettsatz. In between, Janácek’s Kreutzer Sonata is a passionate study of psychological drama inspired by the heroine of a Tolstoy story.
