2013: Michael Rosen
Celebrated poet, writer, broadcaster and former Children's Laureate Michael Rosen led the 47th Brighton Festival
'This is the year the Brighton festival took off' The Observer
Celebrated poet, writer, broadcaster and former Children's Laureate Michael Rosen led the city in three weeks of outstanding arts events for the 47th Brighton Festival. Many of Michael's interests and passions ran throughout the programme and Michael himself appeared at over a dozen events.
'His character and personality has been imprinted across the programme and I can’t think of anyone who has had such a major influence on what is going on. He has been everything a guest director should be. It has been a pleasure having him here in Brighton.' Duncan Hall, The Argus
With dozens of free performances and exhibitions, Brighton Festival 2013 enjoyed an attendance in excess of 200,000, including over 69,000 tickets sold - the highest number ever. We live streamed 11 events from this website, viewed more than 5,000 times. Add to that Kaarina Kaikonnen's much-talked-about public installation on the iconic Clock Tower, which in itself reached over a quarter of a million residents and visitors.
