5 Minutes with Brighton College Nursery & Pre-Prep

Interviews

Brighton College Nursery & Pre-Prep is supporting Michael Rosen’s Brighton Birthday and Jacqueline Wilson as part of our Literature programme this year. We speak to Amy Adams and Bea Howard, English Department leads at the school, to find out more about their involvement.

As the theme of this year’s festival is care, what does care mean for you?

Care is about the nurture, kindness and love you show to others and yourself.

What event(s) are you sponsoring and what’s your involvement?

We are thrilled to be sponsoring both Michael Rosen's Brighton Birthday and Jacqueline Wilson’s events. We have been inviting children to creatively persuade us why they should be chosen to attend their events.

Why did you decide to get involved in the Festival and what do you enjoy most about it?

Promoting a love of reading is a core value at our school, and being able to sponsor both Michael Rosen and Jacqueline Wilson’s events, who are so loved by our pupils, is a real honour. Reading brings joy to our pupils and the Brighton Festival brings people together to celebrate creativity.

What has been your favourite highlights from previous years?

For the Birds – a light installation and exhibition that was held in the woods overlooking Brighton – was truly brilliant! The silent disco and children’s theatre were also some of our pupils’ favourites.

What are you hoping people will enjoy most about the event(s) you’re involved with?

We’d love for the children to experience the joy of literature and to come away from these events inspired and excited to create their own stories and poems. Listening live to an author whose work you love can be an inspiring and magical experience.
