Untethered

Rising star Hugh Cutting is at the forefront of a new generation of vocal virtuosi: in 2021 he was the first countertenor ever to win the prestigious Kathleen Ferrier Award, and now he opens Brighton Festival’s Lunchtimes Series with a programme that displays the full scope of his extraordinary talent.

Inspired by Michael A. Singer’s philosophical book The Untethered Soul this recital takes the notion of ‘tethered’ and ‘untethered’ as its basis, exploring how we might be freed – untethered. Conceived during the pandemic this recital features works by Monteverdi, Purcell, Howells, Vaughan Williams, Benjamin and Muhly, a reflection on new ways of living and being.
