Elite vocal ensemble The Sixteen surveys nine centuries of music and poetry glorifying the divine. Composers range from a mystic 12th century German abbess and a 16th-century Catholic renegade who allegedly abandoned composition to assist in the dissolution of the monasteries, via the ‘holy minimalism’ of Arvo Pärt, to two contemporary British pieces for the rare combination of choir and violin.
