The Festival kicks off with this annual opening parade, which sees around 5,000 children from scores of schools and community organisations parading through the city in an explosion of sound and colour. This year’s theme, in honour of our visual artist Guest Director David Shrigley, is ‘Paintings’. Each school has been allocated an artwork to take away and explore in detail before they reveal the results of their hard work in front of thousands of spectators.

Young people and their teachers will be hitting the streets of Brighton with art on their minds…and in their costumes, music and carnival structures. So join the arty-party to help the Festival create the first masterpiece of 2018!
