The Gabriels: Election Year in the Life of One Family

9 Feb 2017

‘Nelson writes with compassion and insight… his actors brilliantly inhabit his characters’ The Guardian ★★★★★

'Nelson's triptych... feels like a theatrical miracle. With the simplest of ingredients, it conjures an entire world in front of your eyes and fills it with teeming life' What's On Stage ★★★★★

'Sad, funny, political, deeply intelligent and richly human, this trilogy is a huge achievement' The Times ★★★★

Richard Nelson’s The Apple Family Plays were the theatrical highlight of the 2015 Brighton Festival.

Now the Tony Award-winning playwright and director follows up with The Gabriels, a landmark series that follows one extraordinary, imperfect American family in real time, tracking their lives throughout the turbulent election year of 2016.

History, money, politics, art and culture are all on the table in this moving three play cycle about a family celebrating, remembering and waiting for the world to change. The Gabriels features some of the finest writing and ensemble acting you'll see all year, as you're invited to eavesdrop within the home of this extraordinary family.

This is 'box set theatre' at its best. You can enjoy each play individually, or watch all three in any combination.

Watch our Spotlight on The Gabriels or read our interview with Richard Nelson.

Book tickets for each play on its individual page or buy a bundle for all three.

Limited £10 Festival Standby tickets are available for certain groups (including under 26s and over 60s) on the day of each performance from the Brighton Festival Ticket Office (10am - 12pm only), and then from 45 minutes before the show at the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts.
