The Music and Legacy of Joy Division

1 Jan 2012

To complement the Live_Transmission concert legendary photographer Kevin Cummins and music journalist Paul Morley discuss the band that defined the post-punk era. Kevin Cummins was there to document Joy Division’s brief yet transcendent reign. Similarly, the extensive writings of Paul Morley (Joy Division: Piece by Piece) capture what Morley describes as the unique ‘mood, atmosphere and ephemeral terror’ that surrounded the band. Join them as they set the music/legacy of Joy Division in a contemporary context, asking whether it is possible for today’s bands to evoke the same level of emotional intensity.

Chaired by Observer music critic Luke Bainbridge.
