The Bruce Lacey Experience

Sun 1 Jan 2012

Jeremy Deller’s work as a film-maker has won him international acclaim. For his new documentary – specially previewed here – the Turner Prize-winning artist turns his attention to fellow film pioneer and iconic performance artist Bruce Lacey.

Three years in the making (with co-director Nicholas Abrahams), Deller’s film examines Lacey’s remarkable legacy. As a painter and sculptor (creating extraordinary mechanical devices in the 1960s). As an avant-garde filmmaker (alongside Dick Lester and Bob Godfrey). And as an all-round cultural chameleon, working with The Goons, The Beatles and even folkrock super-group Fairport Convention.

The screening is followed by a conversation between Jeremy Deller and David Alan Mellor (University of Sussex).

Also showing at the University of Sussex until Fri 18 May
