A Celebration of William Byrd

Sun 1 Jan 2012

Including
Mass for Four Voices
Propers for the Assumption
Laudibus in Sanctis

In its most ambitious tour to date, the UK’s leading Renaissance vocal ensemble takes on the complete Latin works of one of England’s greatest ever composers.

The religious music of William Byrd defined the Tudor era. His talent brought him fame and won him position but Byrd led a precarious double life as a recusant Catholic in Reformation England, rubbing shoulders with gunpowder plotters and dissidents. His choice of texts was dangerous and subversive and many of his masses and motets were performed in secret during the composer’s lifetime.

Now, following the release of its multi-awardwinning 13-CD William Byrd edition, The Cardinall’s Musick celebrates this extraordinary body of sacred music, including Mass for Four Voices, Propers for the Assumption and Laudibus in Sanctis.
