Twenty Thousand Streets Under the Sky

Three Hamilton novels – The Midnight Bell, The Siege of Pleasure, and The Plains of Cement – provide the inspiration for this atmospheric mini-masterpiece of recent TV history by Simon Curtis (My Week with Marilyn). Post-show Q&A with Simon Curtis.

To complement the Hangover Square exhibition we are screening two of Patrick Hamilton's films. Though many of Patrick Hamilton’s intensely filmic novels received the Hollywood treatment during the 1940s, none quite captured what critic David Thomson calls Hamilton's ‘baleful atmosphere, the mix of lowly realism and metaphysical dread’. To complement the exhibition of an imagined Hangover Square film set at the University of Brighton Gallery, Cinecity presents two films steeped in the ‘Hamilton-esque’.
