This highly influential semi-documentary silent is a vivid snapshot of life in Weimar Berlin that launched the careers of Robert Siodmak and Billy Wilder, later to become major names in Hollywood. It preserves a record of Berlin and the surrounding countryside in a wonderfully naturalistic style as it follows four friends escaping Berlin for a day, and charts their rivalries, flirtations and jealousies before the return to the weekday routine. This screening is accompanied by a live score from leading piano accompanist Neil Brand.

Directed by Robert Siodmak and Edgar G. Ulmer
Screenplay by Billy Wilder
