Visitors to the Pavilion Projection

  • The main point of entry to access the Pavilion Lawn will be through the William IV Gate on Church Street where stewards will direct you.
  • Please leave after watching a 10 minute loop via the signposted exits to the left and right of the lawns. The projections are played minimum of 3 times between 9.30pm – 10.20pm. We advise people to arrive after 9.30pm to view the second or third loop to avoid overcrowding.
  • Please follow the paths where fencing, barriers and our team of stewards and volunteers will direct you. Please do not jump over barriers, jump down from the pavement or sit on the bus stop.
  • Wheel Chair access to the projections is from the William IV Gate off of Church Street. Stewards will be able to advise the best route to take into the projection area. The Pavilion Garden is a mixture of grass and hard pathways. If you have any access requirements please email us at access@brightonfestival.org
  • Please note that this is a heritage site, there is no alcohol or glass allowed in the garden.

More than a million men travelled from India to fight for the Allies during World War One. Between 1914 and 1916, over 2000 Indian soldiers wounded on the Western Front were brought to a temporary hospital housed in Brighton’s majestic, Mughal inspired Royal Pavilion Estate. In a major new collaboration with Nutkhut, Dr Blighty recalls this unexpected episode in Brighton’s history, bringing the experiences of the soldiers, and the locals who came to care for them, movingly back to life. Dr Blighty is part of 14-18 NOW, the UK's arts programme for the First World War Centenary.

Visitors to Royal Pavilion Garden can experience a dreamlike environment of immersive installations, ambient soundscapes and theatrical interludes, inspired by letters the soldiers sent back home. After dark, enthralling video projections will colourfully animate the Royal Pavilion.
