Fri 15 Feb 2013
Cross-over could have been invented for the world’s most sought-after virtuoso of the Indian violin: not only is Jyotsna Srikanth the queen of Carnatic music from southern India, she is a leading exponent of Indian jazz and experimental music, with a technique rooted in Western classical music. She is a also veteran of WOMAD, the BBC Proms, eight albums and nearly 200 Bollywood films. In this concert, she is accompanied by two south Indian rhythm instruments: the mridangam, a two-sided drum, and the ghatam, the clay pot.
