Dr Blighty: Commemorations

Fri 12 Feb 2016

The week closes with a special installation, laying 101 diya lamps to commemorate the soldiers’ stay in the city, one for each year since they were here.

To make a diya (decorated clay pot) for the final installation, drop into Brighton Dome CafĂ©-bar throughout the Festival. Find out more...

This event will coincide with a wreath laying ceremony in Royal Pavilion Garden (4 pm) at the Indian Gate, and the unveiling of a Blue Plaque honouring Subedar Mir Dast (awarded the Victoria Cross at the Royal Pavilion by King George V). Organised by Davinder Dhillon, from the Chattri Group, this commemoration also marks the departure of the Indian soldiers from Brighton's military hospitals one hundred years ago.
