London Symphony Orchestra

*Unfortunately, conductor Daniel Harding is ill and has been forced to withdraw from the LSO’s concert at Brighton Festival tomorrow evening. The LSO and Brighton Festival are extremely grateful to soloist Leif Ove Andsnes, who will now play/direct Mozart’s Piano Concerto No 20 from the keyboard in the first half of the concert, and conductor Claus Peter Flor, who has agreed to step in at very short notice to conduct Bruckner’s Symphony No 3 in the second half.

The overall programme remains the same. However, please note that the second half of the concert will now feature the Third Version of Bruckner’s Third Symphony (1889, ed Nowak 1959), instead of the First Version.

A fusion of exquisite beauty, serene simplicity and intense feeling, Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 was featured in the 1984 film Amadeus and contains the thrilling Rondo section with its rippling, rising melody line known as the Mannheim Rocket. On an altogether mightier scale, Bruckner’s Third Symphony with its grand and majestic orchestration is directed here by maestro Claus Peter Flor.*

A rare opportunity to hear the LSO outside London, this opening concert reflects the Festival’s strong classical tradition over the past 50 years with some of the most remarkable performers of today.
