Brighton Festival Taster Day

Find out about the Festival line up at our open day for all ages. Meet the Festival team, eat some delicious Senegalese food from Brighton-based Le Baobab Cuisine, enjoy live West African music and get stuck in to lots of activities.

Live music comes from Classic Ghana Highlife (Alex Yeboah, Kofi Adu, Papa J Mensah), three of the very best artists from this seminal West African music style that influenced the continent and helped start the world wide popularity of African music. A wonderful opportunity to experience supreme musicianship with this rare and special lineup performing Highlife, Palmwine Guitar Music and Kpanlogo. Plus a set from acapella trio Bel Mousai.

Throughout the day other activities include poetry workshops, storytime corner, badge-making, mask-making, cupcake decorating and the smoothie bike - pedal and mix your own smoothie!

The History of Brighton Festival

Founders Room

A special talk by Philip Morgan on the history of Brighton Festival 1814 to 2001 - from roast beef to Anish Kapoor. A look at the history from the Summer of Peace in 1814 when the end of the Napoleonic wars was celebrated with a street party for 7,000 people, to 2009 when a traffic jam was caused on the Brighton bypass by people queuing to experience Anish Kapoor’s C Curve...
