Hugh Cutting, Rebecca Leggett & George Ireland
Butterworth, Belloc, Vaughan Williams and Virginia Woolf
‘The South Country’ celebrates the Brighton Festival’s home county, Sussex (by the Sea). Featuring art song and poetry from famous residents and passers-through, this recital also contains references to Glyndebourne, folk traditions, and even indie and pop acts such as Leo Sayer, Johnny Flynn and ABBA.
Born and raised in Sussex, Rebecca Leggett‘s recent appearances include those with Les Arts Florissants and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. Hugh Cutting, who currently lives in the county, is the first countertenor to become both a BBC New Generation Artist and win the Kathleen Ferrier Award, in which he was accompanied by George Ireland. George first performed at the Brighton Festival with Hugh in 2021 where his playing was praised as ‘spectacular, sensitive and vivid’
