I See Infinite Distance Between Any Point and Another

This newly commissioned film piece by Turner Prize-nominated artists The Otolith Group will form the second part of a projected trilogy exploring the relationship between finance capitalism and the Atlantic slave trade.

It follows on from Hydra Decapita (2010), which took as its departure point an influential series of recordings made by the Detroit-based electronic music duo Drexciya, which imagined a fictional underwater world, populated by the descendants of Africans drowned by slavers.

Film and video makers, curators and commissioners,The Otolith Group has emerged as one of the most distinctive voices in British contemporary art. Their work is research based, often using archive footage and science fictions to interrogate the past and explore the future. They have exhibited at Tate Britain, Nottingham Contemporary and the Hayward Gallery.

This co-commission is in response to The Boat Project. A partnership between Fabrica, Lighthouse, Blast Theory, Photoworks, Brighton Festival and the University of Brighton, Faculty of Arts. The work is part of RELAY – Contemporary art in the south east of England commissioned in response to London 2012.
