Simon Garfield: On the Map

Fri 15 Feb 2013

A fascinating and revelatory look at our understanding of maps and our place in the world, Simon Garfield’s book On the Map charts the changing methods and uses of cartography, from rudimentary Medieval diagrams with Jerusalem in the middle to the latest mobile apps that track individuals to any point on earth and make them the focus of the world. In this presentation, he guides us through an imaginary exhibition of maps and related artefacts, and introduces a wealth of cartographers, globe-makers, guides, navigators, conquistadors and philosophers, to answer the question: how did we get to where we are now?
