Brit(ish)

Mon 5 Feb 2018

In her new book Brit(ish), Afua Hirsch explores Britain’s crisis of identity. She argues that we are a nation in denial about our past and our present, conflicted over such issues as slavery and immigration, and over notions of fairness.

In this thought-provoking discussion chaired by Colin Grant, she asks the questions that the nation will grapple with in the coming years. What does Britishness mean now? How is that identity shaped by the past? And how might it change in the post-Brexit future?
