Schubert  String Quartet No. 13 in A minor, D.804 (Rosamunde)

This summer as part of the London 2012 Festival, Brighton Festival teams up with three East Sussex festivals and venues for Summer Schubertiade - a series of special Saturday evening chamber recitals celebrating of the music of Franz Schubert and György Kurtág.

Emerging at the same time as his landmark Death and the Maiden, Schubert’s tender and at times melancholic Rosamunde was based on incidental music he had written for a play of the same name in Vienna, 1823.

For the first concert in the series in partnership with Clifton Montpelier Powis Festival, we welcome back Heath Quartet – rapidly emerging as an exciting and original voice on the international chamber music scene. They return to CMP Festival  by popular demand, having thrilled  audiences last year with part of their Beethoven cycle.

'Focused, skilled, and ready for anything…here the Heath Quartet's prayerful concentration really paid off in a performance of unforced beauty and tremulous tension, dappled with sudden shadows and anguished nostalgia for happier times. Each player listened closely to each other; each fell in with Schubert's feelings as a hand fits the perfect glove.'
