Hue and Cry

Fri 15 Feb 2013

The first of the fabled Ealing comedies is also a thriller for children, partly inspired by Kästner’s Emil and the Detectives, which provides a major strand of this year’s Festival. Like Emil, Hue and Cry sees a city – post-war London – through children’s eyes, and tells of a gang of boys foiling a crook, in this case a criminal mastermind who sends details of forthcoming thefts to local criminals through altering the wording of a weekly comic strip.

Directed by Charles Crichton
With Alastair Sim, Jack Warner, Valerie White
