The Apple Family Plays: An Introduction

Thu 19 Feb 2015

Tony Award winning Richard Nelson’s celebrated four play cycle has been described as ‘one of the great accomplishments in American theater to date this century’ (New York Times).

Centered on the fictional, liberal Apple family of upstate New York, these interconnecting dramas explore politics, change and family dynamics in the 21st century with remarkable immediacy. First commissioned by The Public Theater, each play premiered on the night on which it was set. Featuring the original ensemble cast that has come to embody Nelson’s fascinating family,

The company of The Apple Family Plays is made up of some of New York’s finest stage actors; and as an ensemble performing this series, it has received great critical recognition and earned a multitude of awards, including both an Obie and a New York Drama Critics Circle Award for best ensemble acting.
