Our ‘Postcards From’ series gives a glimpse of some of the exciting things that have been taking place across the city throughout Brighton Festival. The Children’s Parade is a beloved annual event that has been a Brighton Festival tradition for over 30 years. This year, it helped launch the Festival once again in a riot of joy and colour! Take a look at some of the highlights from this year’s celebration.

This year's Children's Parade was led by Brighton Dome & Festival CEO Andrew Comben; this year’s Guest Director, musician, DJ and broadcaster Nabihah Iqbal; and the Mayor of Brighton and Hove, Lizzie Deane.
This year's parade started at Jubilee Square, with local samba bands and drumming groups playing, getting people in the mood to take to the streets! The largest Children's Parade in Europe, it involved over 5,000 children from schools and community groups across the region.
The Children's Parade is sponsored by award-winning community arts organisation Same Sky, which is the South East's largest community arts charity, and is also supported by Brighton Girls. This year's theme was "One World, learning and growing from each other". Local students, their teachers, and volunteers from Same Sky all came together to create a glorious array of outfits and puppets.
After leaving Jubilee Square, the parade snaked its way through North Laine, down North Street and along the seafront, passing the Palace Pier before stopping at Madeira Drive, where there were some rather large seagulls!
What an excellent way to kick off Brighton Festival 2023... We hope that you had as much fun as we did at this year's Children's Parade!
