A vocal ‘Khayal’ workshop with Prabhat Rao
Come and learn from leading exponent of Khayal training in the UK. Prabhat Rao will show you the fundamentals of khayal / ‘imagination’ singing - one of the main elements of vocal tradition south Asian musical tradition. As one of the few vocalists Prabhat is a full-time, dedicated practitioner and teacher of this genre, he is committed to nurturing the next generation to carry the tradition forward, teaching and mentoring. Hailing from a South Indian family, Prabhat spent his early years with his grandmother, a Carnatic classical music exponent, before deciding to pursue a deep study of music in his late teens, drawn by the improvisational nature of Khayal.
A heart-opening and connecting workshop – the purpose is to inspire you to take singing khayal further into your own practice, or just as importantly, to be able to better understand and appreciate the vocal tradition. Either way – a beautiful way to spend a Sunday morning: listening, singing, and learning.
