Dome Connect, Brighton Dome’s business network, which takes place in our reopened venues, showcasing the best of our artistic programme and giving you a chance to meet other like-minded professionals from across the city.

Join us on Friday 16th May, for a rehearsal with choreographer and dancer, Aakash Odedra, who will be bringing his show, Songs of the Bulbul, to Brighton Festival as part of his 2025 tour.

Starting at 2pm, we will go behind the scenes with a tech rehearsal in the Corn Exchange, as Aakash and the team prepare for the first show that evening. Following this, there will be time for tea and coffee, to meet with fellow guests and have a chat.

About Songs of the Bulbul:

Songs of the Bulbul is a new dance work by Aakash Odedra, with choreography by Rani Khanam and music by Rushil Ranjan. In Persian culture, nightingales or “Bulbuls” are deeply symbolic, representing the soul’s yearning for unity with the divine. Drawing inspiration from an ancient Sufi myth, the work tells the story of a bulbul trapped in captivity.

The work intertwines the graceful yet powerful art of Kathak dance and Sufi storytelling. Through this collaboration, the piece seamlessly blends classical Indian music, Sufi poetry, and orchestral elements, inviting audiences into a transformative experience that transcends physical and emotional boundaries.

The Guardian gave the show 5-stars, calling it a ‘sumptuously scored solo dance full to bursting with feeling’.

Tickets are free but as a charity, donations to support our work would be welcome. Donate via your ticket booking or at the venue on our tap to donate machine.
