We Are Warriors
‘Like falling into the sky’
We Are Warriors is an immersive sound and light installation, described by audiences as 'a wonderground'. It is an 'awe-inspiring', 'utterly raw', and 'heartbreakingly beautiful', subterranean constellation of women’s, girls’, trans and non-binary voices, filling darkness with breath, whispers, roars and lullabies. Hundreds of flickering lights ignite the space — each one placed in tribute to someone who has been lost or silenced.
Carved from shadow, the installation becomes a sanctuary: a place of collective remembrance, resistance, and care. Sound moves through the body, light gathers in unexpected constellations, and the space itself is transformed by those who enter it.
We Are Warriors began in the ancient spaces beneath the city of Bristol, where once-silent medieval caves resonated with the voices of over one hundred local people. Together, they filled the underground darkness with sound and light, reclaiming the space as one of connection and shared strength.
Each visitor is invited to take part — to create and place a light, to honour a life, and to join a growing global chorus. As the installation travels and evolves, it continues to transform dark spaces into sanctuaries, inviting audiences everywhere to push the dark away.
